File Viewing/Download Information

The OCECD Web site contains links to documents in many different formats. The information below should help you understand how to view these files. Some may be viewed through your browser using a plug-in - others need to be downloaded to your computer and viewed through a program.

File Type	File Extension	Viewer Information	Viewer Location
HTML or other Web file	.htm, .html, .cfm, .asp, .php	These files will be in html (or other web) format - use a web browser to view file. File remains on server.
Mailto Link	Not a file - type of link	If you have an email client set up on your machine and with this web browser, a "new message" window will open with this email address in the "To" field.
Rich Text file	.rtf	Right-click on the link, choose to download file then use any text editor such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Word Viewer, Wordpad or Notepad to view the file.
PDF doc	.pdf	Most browsers allow you to view these files. Simply click on the link and an Acrobat plug-in should open in your browser. File stays on the server. To download the file to your computer, right-click on the link, choose to download file then use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) to view file.
Word doc	.doc	Microsoft Word Document - Right-click on the link, choose to download file then use Microsoft Word or Microsoft Word Viewer (free) to open file.	Microsoft Word Viewer (97/2000) Microsoft Word Viewer (2003)
PowerPoint presentation	.ppt	Right-click on the link, choose to download file then use Microsoft Powerpoint or Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer (free) to view presentation.	Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer (97/2000/2002) Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer (2003)
Access database	.mdb	Right-click on the link, choose to download file then use Microsoft Access to open the file. There is no free viewer for this type of file.
Streaming Real media	.ram, .smi	Use the REALPlayer (free) to view or listen. File remains on the server.
Download Real media	.rm	Right-click on the link, choose to download file then use REALPlayer to view or listen. Note: most audio files are large - video files are VERY large.	Follow links to download the free basic player.
Zip file	.zip	Right-click on the link, choose to download file then use an uzip tool to expand the files to a directory of your choosing on your computer. Zip files can contain files of many different file types.	Download Evaluation version of Winzip Note: This is an evaluation version only.
