Description:

Course Description: This 2-day course is designed to help educators understand how to identify students with dyslexia and provide them with appropriate interventions. Dyslexia will be defined within the context of models of reading and reading disabilities including recent neurological information about the reading process. Federal and state legislation relevant to dyslexia and its implications for educators and school psychologists will be reviewed and discussed. An overview of evidence based explicit, systematic multisensory structured language (MSL) instruction will also be presented.

The course will include:

An overview of the process of reading
A brief history of the field of learning disabilities
A discussion of federal and state legislation relevant to dyslexia
A review of the definition of dyslexia in current Ohio law
Early signs of dyslexia and typical student profiles Identification of dyslexia
Appropriate interventions for students with dyslexia
Development of intervention plans
