NAMI Franklin County Update for August 2017

Family-to-Family Begins August 24!

woman_curlyhair.jpg

NAMI Franklin County Family-to-Family is a free, 12-session, evidence-based educational program for families, friends, and significant others of people living with mental illness. The topics covered in each session will significantly improve the coping and problem-solving abilities you need to care for your loved one.

You'll not only learn valuable information and strategies for taking care of your loved one and yourself-which is vital-but you'll find out you are not alone in this journey. And, more than likely, you can help others through sharing your own experiences.

The next 12-week session begins on Thursday, August 24. We will also have a six-week session starting Sunday, October 8. Family-to-Family is free; registration is required. Check under Classes on our website for registration information.
We look forward to meeting you!

Ending the Silence Program

Ending the Silence

Ending the Silence

NAMI Franklin County is recruiting for the volunteer positions of Lead Presenter and Young Adult Presenter for, Ending the Silence, a 50- minute mental health awareness program for middle and high school aged youth. Teens learn how to recognize the early warning signs of mental illness and what to do if they or someone they know is exhibiting these signs.

Ending the Silence instills a message of hope and recovery and encourages teens to reduce stigma and end the silence surrounding mental illness. If you are living with a mental health condition (a person with lived experience), love helping teens, are in recovery, and are available during the school day, we want to train you as a presenter.

If you are serious about volunteering, click here to complete the application. Return your completed form via email; fax, 614-501-6267; or, by mail to NAMI Franklin County, c/o Laurita Barber, 1225 Dublin Rd., Suite 110, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

NAMI Franklin County Mentor Program

Do you love someone who has a mental health condition? If you answered "Yes" then you know that often, that can be a difficult position to be in. Maybe you've thought things like: No one understands what I'm going through...not even family members; I don't know what to do; I don't know who to reach out to; and, I'm exhausted!

These are perfectly normal reactions. You're not alone. NAMI Franklin County has a Mentor Program that can match you with someone who has been in your shoes...has traveled the road you're on and can listen when you need an ear; make suggestions when you're stuck; can be a coach or a sounding board when you need one. We will have information sessions in August, September, and October (dates to be announced soon). If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] or call us at: 614-501-6264. Remember, you are not alone. We are here to help.
