Why Would My Child Do That?
Making Sense of Communication
Saturday, September 12, 2020 10:00 am to 12:00 pm*
Presentations on behavior are popular as we all hope to obtain the magic bullet that will eliminate all problems. Unfortunately, dealing with behavior is way more complicated. All children will behave in ways that perplex, annoy, and challenge parents (and professionals). The goal of the webinar, Why Would My Child Do That? Making Sense of Communication, is to provide some perspectives and tools to help make sense of behavior. Behavior must be understood before it can be changed.
Participants in the webinar will be able to:
• Distinguish between behavior as learned and behavior as chosen
• Place behavior in a hierarchy of “let it go” to “deal with it now!” • Be able to put words to behavior
• Ask a series of questions to help identify the purpose of the behavior
• Describe how the environment can be changed to modify behavior
