NAMI Ohio FW: Ohio Resiliency Ring - Virtual Activities
|
Nothing
screams ACTIVE like frisbees and hula hoops. Both fun items are being
distributed for free by YouthMOVE as part of the 15th
annual Resiliency Ring event for young Ohioans.
The event usually involves young people joining hands to form a ring,
symbolizing connections and resiliency in the face of mental health
challenges. The Resiliency Ring has been held in past years at the
Ohio Statehouse and other locations. It is going virtual this year
because of precautions due to the Covid19 pandemic. The show goes on
under the sponsorship of the National Alliance on Mental Illness of
Ohio, YouthMOVE, ENGAGE, the Parent Advocacy Connection, and the Ohio
Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
YouthMOVE has requests in just the first few days for 700 hula hoops, 1,500 folding flying disks and over 2,000 care cards, all to “remind people to be resilient, get up and move,” said Angela Lariviere, Program Director of NAMI Ohio YouthMOVE.
“We want to inspire kids to get off their computers, since they’re living inside, and get out and move,” she said. “We’re looking for anything to lift the spirits of children and youth.”
While supplies last – and they’re going fast – frisbees and hula hoops are available by contacting Lariviere at [email protected] or
Tamisha McKenzie at [email protected].
