The Ohio Department of Education is seeking parent input regarding indicators of special education program performance. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) requires each state to develop an Annual Performance Report. As previously shared, this report evaluates the state’s efforts to implement the requirements of IDEA. It includes targets and data for 17 indicators of special education program performance. The Special Education Indicator process includes a requirement that every five to six years, targets are re-identified. These targets are currently being developed for the next five years with the department utilizing a wide range of stakeholder and public feedback. All stakeholders who serve or have a connection to students with disabilities are encouraged to provide input on Ohio’s next series of targets for the federal special education indicators.
On Monday, October 18th from 8a – 12p, the Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children will host a virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams to present explanations of identified indicators that are of most interest to parents. Details about this meeting including the agenda and virtual log-in information are forthcoming. Attendees will have the option to provide their feedback during the meeting through the use of a Microsoft Form provided as a link to be completed electronically. Alternatively, this electronic form can be completed following the meeting.
