About This Training
Children Transitioning from Early Intervention to Preschool:  What Parents Need to Know includes five video modules designed to prepare families for the change that takes place as their child leaves early intervention services for preschool services, upon turning three years of age.  In this series of video modules, you will learn about the differences between early intervention and preschool, and how the transition planning process helps prepare the child and family for a change in services.  You will also learn about preschool special education services, including the evaluation and eligibility determination, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) components, and the process used for determining where a child’s services take place.

Video Module 1 - The Basics
Assists families in understanding the differences between early intervention and preschool services. 



Video Module 2 - The Transition Planning Process 
Identifies information families need to know about the transition planning process and how that process helps to prepare their child for the move from early intervention services to preschool. Includes various tips designed to help families have a smooth transition, and who can help if individualized assistance is needed.



Video Module 3 – Evaluation and Eligibility
Includes information on the evaluation process required for determining a child’s eligibility for preschool special education services, and timelines.



Video Module 4The Individualized Education Program (IEP) 
Provides families with an explanation of the components of a preschool IEP, who makes the decisions about services, when services must start, and who is responsible for carrying them out


Video Module 5Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and Placement
Defines a least restrictive environment and what the law requires, provides an overview of where and how preschool special education services are provided, and describes the process for determining a child’s placement in the least restrictive environment.
